Note: The Firefox Web browser offers a built-in option for searching Creative Commons. To see how it works, view this short video.
To set up Internet Explorer to search for Creative Commons-licensed material automatically, follow these steps:
- In Internet Explorer, pull up the Yahoo! Creative Commons search utility (http://search.yahoo.com/cc), type the word TEST into the search field, and click Search CC (see below).

2. After you click Search CC, a search results page similar to the one below appears. In the search results page, head to the search field and drag your cursor to highlight the entire URL; then press the Ctrl key down and keep it down while you press the letter C. (Doing so copies the contents of the search field.)

- Open a new browser window. Then head to the upper right corner of the browser window and click the down arrow you see next to the search options. From the drop-down list that appears, choose Find More Providers (see below).

- After you choose Find More Providers, the window you see below appears. Click in the text field next to option #3; then hold down the Ctrl key while you press V. (Doing so pastes the previously copied URL). Type in a name for the Creative Commons search function (below, you see the name CC Search) and click Install.

- Now, by default, whenever you search in Internet Explorer you’re searching for Creative Commons-licensed materials (see below).
