Sample Lesson Plans using SNS Facebook:

Lesson Title:

Using Facebook With Literature

Description:

The following lesson is a similar lesson from the selected MySpace lesson plans in which students create a Facebook profile based on a character from a book they are reading.  The lesson was developed by Brittany Davis, a graduate of teh University of Michigan teacher-training college.  Students will work with a computer with internet access to work with the SNS Facebook.  They will also use a digital camera to take photos to upload into their webpage.  The activity entails for high school students in a literature class to create a Facebook profile of a character from a book they are reading in class.  Students' facebook profile will be based on their character's personality.  Students will be working with other students or friends to communicate in Facebook; so they will need to setup their account for only their peers to have access.  Students will also be working closely with their character by creating a puppet or dressing up as their character and then take photos to upload them onto their Facebook profiles for viewing.

Veronica,

What a fabulous lesson plan! Encouraging students to exercise Facebook in the context of a literary character will help them build familiariity with the tool while creating something thoughtful. (I've never bought the "SNS are educationally useful because they encourage introspection" argument, as I believe middle-to-college-age students are generally pretty self-absorbed without being coached into it!) But this is seriously cool. Kudos to you for finding this.
